DONALD E. COUNCIL NAMED 2004 AMSA SUPER VAN OPERATOR
  
ST. LOUIS - Donald E. Council, a contract van operator for United Van Lines, was recently honored as the 2004 AMSA Super Van Operator Special Commodities Achievement Award Winner.

The recognition acknowledges excellent performance in the areas of operational proficiency, customer service and safety.

Super Van Operator Special Commodities winners must be currently transporting special commodities as his/her primary duty; have transported special commodities as his/her primary duty during the prior year; and have transported special commodities as his/her primary duty during the past five years. Special commodities are defined as computer or tradeshow exhibits, furniture, temperature-controlled freight, artwork, loads requiring special handling, automobiles, or other commodities.

Council has been employed with United Van Lines for the past 36 years and has driven more than four million miles throughout his career. Within the last year, he drove 115,000 miles, and had no preventable accidents, no moving violations, and no cargo claims. Council has 41 years total experience driving commercial motor vehicles.

Council also has performed numerous humanitarian acts throughout his career including helping stranded motorists by driving them to their destinations, giving them money for food, and changing tires for them. Additionally, in the late 80s, he rescued a girl from an overturned car.
