UniGroup, Inc. Donates Transportation of
"Floating Sphere" for Fenton Heroes Memorial |

ST. LOUIS – To honor the sacrifices of lost American heroes, the city of Fenton, Mo., is planning a “Heroes Memorial.” All veterans, as well as firefighters, police officers and emergency personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our communities and our country, in addition to those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, will be recognized.
As a part of the memorial, the city of Fenton purchased a piece of art called the “Floating Sphere” from Kusser Aicha Granitwerke located in Aicha Vorm Wald, Germany. Fenton-based UniGroup, Inc. stepped in to help with the logistics and cover the nearly $5,000 in transportation costs. The work of art is a granite sphere that spins steadily on a thin film of water without using mechanics. Through its international subsidiary, UniGroup Worldwide UTS, UniGroup, Inc. arranged for the transportation service and handled the logistics with the support of its overseas partner and vendors to move the work of art from Germany to Fenton in a safe and secure manner.
The weight of the shipment, including a vault to store water, was more than 20,000 pounds and required a specially designed container for transporting the piece. Additionally, UniGroup Worldwide UTS representatives were onsite during the delivery to oversee the rigging, the crane and the placement of the sphere.
The initial phase of the “Heroes Memorial” project was dedicated on Sept. 11, 2004, during Fenton’s Musical Sunset event. The Memorial will be located in Fenton City Park and will include landscaping, benches, memorial plaques and a contemplation courtyard.
UniGroup, Inc., a $2 billion transportation and relocation services company, operates one of the largest privately owned trucking fleets in the United States.
