FOR THE LOVE OF A SON Local Family to Hold Sixth Annual Memorial Golf Tournament |

ST. LOUIS - When Darrik Sabada died unexpectedly of a heart arrhythmia in 1999 at age 16, his parents, Nancy and David, and sister, Kimberly, wanted to honor his memory in a way they knew would make him proud. Because Darrik deeply valued his opportunity to attend a private high school, Nancy, David, and Kimberly established the Darrik S. Sabada Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Currently the Foundation has 19 scholarship recipients, with $150,000 in scholarship monies awarded for private high-school education.
An annual golf tournament is the single fundraising event held each year to help raise funds for the foundation. This year's tournament will be held at WingHaven Country Club in O'Fallon, Mo., on June 6. Entry is $400 for a single player and $1,500 for a foursome.
The tournament is put together by a group of volunteers including past recipients of the scholarship and friends of Darrik. The day includes lunch, dinner, gifts, a silent auction and a live auction emceed by radio personality Guy Phillips. For more information, call the Sabadas at 636-225-6054.
"We are proud to have helped numerous children achieve their academic goals," said David Sabada, father of Darrik and president of local moving company A-Mrazek Moving Systems. "With the help of the Foundation, the scholarship recipients are able to follow their hearts and achieve the dreams they have. Their dedication has made them living examples of what Darrik strived to attain."
