UNITED VAN LINES HELPS RAISE MONEY FOR JUVENILE DIABETES

ST. LOUIS - United Van Lines, the nation's largest household goods transportation company, donated a ride in its hot-air balloon to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to auction at its Spring Gala. The ride raised $4,000 for diabetes research at the event, which was held at The Pageant Theater on April 9.

The gala's theme was "Wild Wild West" and more than 400 people attended. Wolfgang Puck Catering handled the food, and local TV veteran Julius Hunter served as the MC for the evening. Twenty-three items were auctioned off and raised a total of $110,000, helping JDRF reach its fundraising goal of $354,000.

JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes-a disease that strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $800 million to diabetes research worldwide. More than 80 percent of JDRF' expenditures directly support research and education about research. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

United Van Lines transports electronic equipment, trade show exhibits and displays, works of art, and specialized freight, in addition to household goods. United, with headquarters located in suburban St. Louis, maintains a network of 1,000 affiliated agencies in 135 countries around the world.
