ST. LOUIS – When employees at United Van Lines’ agent A-Mrazek Moving Systems heard of the need to transport 11 rescued puppies from southern Missouri to Chicago, they banned together to ensure the animals would make it to their destination. Working with K9Companion Rescue, an animal rescue organization based in Chicago, the puppies were brought from Springfield, Mo., to the St. Louis area. An A-Mrazek employee who was planning to travel to Chicago for the weekend volunteered to take the two brindle Boxers and nine black Labrador Retrievers ranging from seven to 10 weeks old with her.
Not knowing what to do with all the puppies until her trip, Jennifer Paule, A-Mrazek’s director of quality and customer satisfaction, and the A-Mrazek warehouse team quickly saved the day by building pens for the animals out of moving boxes and paper pads donated by the moving company.
Rita Pain, move coordinator for A-Mrazek, donated blankets and pet kennels for Paule to use while transporting the puppies to Chicago, and Betty Miller, accounting manager for A-Mrazek, donated puppy food, collars and leashes, and contacted friends in an attempt to find homes for two of the little ones.
K9Companion Rescue is a non-profit organization that saves puppies from rural southern shelters where adoption is low and euthanasia is high. Chicago has proven to be an area of the country where adoption rates are strong.
“When our team heard that the dogs could be euthanized if they could not transported, we were all happy to do our part to save them,” said Paule. “I was already traveling to Chicago and this gave me the opportunity to help save these animals’ lives, as well as make families happy by giving them a new family member.”
