Delaney Moving & Storage Helped Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area
Make Holidays Brighter for those in Need
United Van Lines agent donated transportation aid and manpower
for Christmas Bureau Distribution Day

SYRACUSE, N.Y.– Delaney Moving & Storage lent a hand and some hauling power to the Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area to help make their annual Christmas Bureau Distribution Day a success. On Dec. 21 from 1 to 7 p.m., the Salvation Army and generous volunteers gathered at the Oncenter Complex to distribute food, clothing and toys to more than 2,500 low-income Syracuse families.

“Over the years, Delaney Moving & Storage has become more involved with this wonderful event coordinated by the Salvation Army,” said Juleen Delaney, vice president at Delaney Moving & Storage, chairperson for Christmas Distribution Committee and advisory board member for the Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area. “Engaging in this event allows the spirit of helping others to spread throughout our entire organization.”

The Syracuse-based United Van Lines agent has been involved with Christmas Bureau Distribution Day for eight years. This year, Delaney Moving & Storage’s contribution included:

  • Delaney Moving & Storage’s president, Art Delaney, his wife, Juleen, and their two children kicking off the holiday season by ringing bells for the Salvation Army’s kettle drive the day after Thanksgiving.
  • Providing tractor trailers and drivers to pickup and deliver more than 200 fresh cut Christmas trees donated by a local farmer in Marcy, N.Y., as well as delivering an empty trailer to the Oncenter where food and toys collected could be stored prior to Dec. 21.
  • Providing volunteers to handle family registrations by processing the names and ages of each family member who will be receiving gifts from the Salvation Army into the computer system.
  • Delivering eight loads of food and toys, which had been stored at Delaney’s warehouse along with the assembly line rollers and equipment needed to serve close to 3,000 families in one day.
  • Delaney employees of all levels and roles assisting as "Santa's helpers" during the event.
  • Tearing down and hauling equipment after the event and storing leftover toys and food at the Delaney warehouse.

“We are extremely appreciative of Delaney Moving & Storage’s willingness to step up and make this day a huge success,” said Linda Wright, executive director of the Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area. “It’s the commitment of local businesses that is so important for brightening the holidays for families in need in our area. The Salvation Army is so proud to be able to coordinate this community effort.”
