A-Mrazek Employees Help Give Nine Furry Friends a Chance at Life
Good Samaritan calls on United Van Lines Agent to Help Pups Find Forever Homes

ST. LOUIS – When a Good Samaritan rescued a pregnant White Shepherd dog at the verge of being euthanized, she called on moving van operators from St. Louis-based A-Mrazek Moving Systems to assist her.

Several employees with United Van Lines agent A-Mrazek are actively involved with a non-profit organization called Echo Dogs White Shepherd Rescue, which saves neglected or abused dogs and dogs from death row shelters, rehabilitates them in foster care, and then places them in new, loving homes.

“Many animal rescue organizations have befriended moving van operators as often they have transportation needs to get dogs from one location to another,” said Heather Andersen, account manager for A-Mrazek. “Once we received word about this case, we wanted to do everything we could to ensure these puppies had a good start at life.”

The nine pups were born in the Good Samaritan’s home in Kansas, and were brought to St. Louis to receive the routine veterinary care. Fortunately, two employees from the A-Mrazek office, Katy Jacobs and Betty Miller, agreed to foster two puppies each. Ellen Pratt, who works for United Van Lines’ headquarters in St. Louis, agreed to foster the remaining five pups while they recuperated from surgery and could be transported to their forever, loving homes.

“As an animal-lover, I felt so sorry for the helpless little puppies,” said Pratt. “I couldn’t resist those cute, loveable creatures!” It was only a matter of a couple of weeks until Andersen found nine families who were eager to welcome another member to their clan. Pratt adopted one pup herself.

“I was pleasantly overwhelmed by the collaboration and generosity of so many individuals,” said Andersen. “Dogs have a special way of touching a person’s heart.”

The generosity didn’t end there. Eight of the puppies still needed to be transported to their homes, which were located in Indianapolis, Chicago and various locations all throughout New Hampshire. Thanks to the help of Pratt and other members of various animal rescue organizations, the puppies were essentially relayed until they reached their respective destination – each person driving one hour at a time.

“It was a time-intensive process coordinating the logistics of the move,” said Andersen. “But, it was all worth it in the end when I heard how happy the families were to receive their dogs.”
