Corrigan Fights Hunger from Sea to Sea
United Van Lines agent donates time and resources to charity effort

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Corrigan Moving Systems, an agent for United Van Lines, is driving the country to fight hunger with the Sea to Sea bike tour, a 62-day ride from Seattle, Wash., to Jersey City, N.J. aimed at raising funds to break the cycle of hunger. The tour kicks off June 30 and ends in a celebration on Aug. 30.
“Corrigan is proud to help raise money for this fund,” said Mike Steensma of Corrigan. “Fighting hunger in our country is especially important now that thousands have lost their homes and food supplies to the floods in the Midwest.”

Steensma said the agency is donating use of a specially painted trailer to accompany bicycle riders on their journey. In addition to the customized paint job, the Corrigan trailer has been retrofitted to accommodate shelves and lockers for participants. The trailer will carry spare bike parts, clothes, tents and personal items for the 218 riders. Of the riders, 127 will be doing the entire ride, while others will join for segments of it.

The Sea to Sea tour aims to set a record as the largest cross-continental bike tour. The current record-holder was a ride across Canada in 2005 with 165 total cyclists, 96 of which completed the entire ride.

Each participant’s fundraising goal is $10,000, or $4,000 if only one leg of the journey is to be completed. If all riders reach their goals, the organization will raise more than $1.5 million to support ongoing programs aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty.

Corrigan Moving Systems has a history of dedicated community service and a strong relationship with Calvin College and local churches, who asked Corrigan to be a part of this important event. This is the first year Corrigan has participated in the Sea to Sea ride.
