PHOENIX – While the rest of America was focused on football and commercials, Horizon Moving Systems, a United Van Lines agent in Phoenix, Ariz., had an important job to do. Horizon was the mover of choice for the New England Patriots, the New York Giants, and all of their guests and equipment.
“I want to thank Horizon Moving Systems for taking care of our teams needs during Super Bowl XLII,” said Jim Phelan, Director of Administration for the New York Giants. “They did a great job with the team, players and family moves to and from the airport. They were an integral part of what was a magical week in Phoenix.”
Beginning on Jan. 27 with the arrival of the Patriots, Horizon met their chartered flight at the airport and transported player and staff luggage as well as players’ equipment bags to their hotel and the practice field. Horizon made a similar move on Jan. 28 for the Giants.
Throughout the week, all of the work by the Horizon team was directed by Greg Hollingsworth, operations manager.
“Greg was instrumental in scheduling our crew, organizing loading and unloading activities at the airport, and on-site supervision at the game,” said Steve Rinaldo, director of sales and marketing at Horizon.
When the friends and family members of both teams arrived on Jan. 31, Horizon was entrusted with transporting the luggage of more than 1,000 people to four different hotels in Phoenix. On that day alone, Horizon devoted 24 workers and 13 trucks to ensure all the luggage arrived safely in the correct hotels.
On Feb. 1 and 2, Horizon brought all of the training materials and player equipment for both teams from the practice facility to the University of Phoenix Stadium in preparation for the big game.
“The Horizon team really worked hard to make these moves seamless so the players and their families could focus on the game,” Rinaldo said.
Horizon had special security clearance for 16 men and six trucks on game day to ensure all equipment could be loaded immediately following the game for transport to the airport. To finish out the whirlwind week, 30 Horizon workers with 16 trucks loaded all luggage from six hotels and all player equipment for delivery to the airport in time for five different chartered flights leaving Phoenix within a four-hour spread that day.
