United Van Lines Partners with Army Wounded Warrior Program to Relocate Soldiers and their Families

SALT LAKE CITY – Mesa Systems, Inc., an agent of United Van Lines, is making the inaugural move of United’s partnership with the U.S. Army Wounded Warrior (AW2) program. AW2 assists and advocates for wounded soldiers and their families throughout their lifetimes, providing personalized recovery services, and United helps these families relocate free of charge to pursue meaningful employment where it is available.

“We are big fans of the military, and we feel strongly about our patriotism and helping those who are fighting for our freedom,” said Steve Smith, agency principal at Mesa Systems. “This moves gives us a tangible way to help out – a way to do something directly for one of our heroes.”

From July 26 to 30, Mesa Systems will move Erick Lund and his wife from Providence, Utah, to Surprise, Ariz., where Lund has accepted a position with the Army Reserves attending dental school.

“Our estimator, Nate Bell, came back after meeting Mr. Lund and said he’s probably one of the nicest people he’s ever met,” Smith said. “Helping the Lunds is the least we can do for someone who fought for our freedom day in and day out.”

Mesa will be providing services to the Lund family before and during their move, and United agent McCollister’s Transportation Systems, based in Burlington, N.J., will assist the family with any additional services they need at their new home.

AW2 helps wounded soldiers suffering from injuries or illnesses incurred after Sept. 10, 2001, in support of the Global War on Terrorism. These men and women have a 30 percent or greater injury rating, meaning they are severely wounded. Partner companies provide meaningful employment to help Wounded Warriors become productive community citizens and support their families. United Van Lines proudly relocates participating soldiers and their families.

While the Lunds’ move is the first AW2 move for United, Smith said Mesa Systems hopes to be involved in more moves of this kind in the future.

“Getting involved was a no-brainer,” Smith said. “It lets us feel involved directly, using what we do best to help an individual whose service we respect and appreciate.”
