Donations double with additional collection site

UPLAND, Calif. – Golden Eagle Moving Services, a United Van Lines moving agent, is turning trash into treasure to benefit the Foothill Family Shelter, a nonprofit organization that provides education, assistance and both short- and long-term housing to homeless children and adults.
This year, Golden Eagle became the organization’s second e-waste collection site. Since then, the program has seen a significant increase in donations, partly because the community is without a formal e-waste recycling program. Golden Eagle also solicits unwanted e-waste from its customers.
“Since Golden Eagle became a part of the program, overall donations have more than doubled,” said Bob Johnson, president. “Donations are picked up twice a month and typically fill a 26-foot moving truck.”
Unlike some other e-waste recycling programs, donors can recycle their unwanted electronics and small appliances for no charge. Proceeds from the program benefit the shelter directly and are predicted to reach an estimated $20,000 to $25,000 per year.
Golden Eagle has been working with the Foothill Family Shelter for 10 years. The company also moves furniture donations that are used in the organization’s residences and apartments. Additionally, Golden Eagle Chief Financial Officer Tom Johnson is vice president of the charity’s board of directors.
“The Foothill Family Shelter is a wonderful organization,” said Tom Johnson. “Not only does it help people in need transition to productive members of society, but it’s making an overall difference in our community.”
