In 2021, family was the highest quoted reason for moving to Connecticut. Whether it’s to start or get close to family, 42% of movers decided Connecticut was right for them.

There is an emerging trend of younger people moving to Connecticut. In 2021, a higher percentage of 18–34-year-olds moved to Connecticut than moved out of the state. 

As younger families move in, the older generations are moving out: 40% of outbound traffic was over the age of 65. The most common reason cited for moving out of Connecticut was for retirement (33%), with family (27%) coming in second. 

Ample opportunities for well paying jobs may be driving Connecticut’s youth movement. Connecticut had a household income of over $150,000 in 2021.
