In 2021, family was the highest quoted reason for moving to Connecticut. Whether it’s to start or get close to family, 42% of movers decided Connecticut was right for them. 

The second biggest reason why people moved to Connecticut was for professional reasons. Thirty-eight percent of movers cited jobs as the reason for their move.

  • Kid City Children’s Museum in Middletown –  a unique museum where kids and grown-ups can play pretend together.  

Sports fans will feel right at home with the Connecticut Sun WNBA team. Playing at the Mohegan Sun Arena, the Connecticut Sun had a record-breaking season in 2021, winning 14 straight games and making the league semifinals.

During baseball season, fans can catch a Double-A ballgame with the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.  

College Education in Connecticut

Connecticut is home to Yale, a prestigious Ivy League school, consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the United States.  

For public universities, the University of Connecticut in Storrs is one of the nation’s  top 25 public universities. They are also well-known for their Huskies women’s college basketball program.

The real estate market in Connecticut has been booming, meaning homes can be more expensive than what you’ll see in other states. Many homes for sale in CT are even going above their listing price. In the first three months of 2022, the median home sales price was $314,7000 – this is an increase of $14,800 from the year before according to the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices report.

Who Is Moving to Connecticut

There is an emerging trend of younger people moving to Connecticut. In 2021, a higher percentage of 18–34-year-olds moved to Connecticut than moved out of the state. 

As younger families move in, the older generations are moving out: 40% of outbound traffic was over the age of 65. The most common reason cited for moving out of Connecticut was for retirement (33%), with family (27%) coming in second. 

Ample opportunities for well paying jobs may be driving Connecticut’s youth movement. Connecticut had a household income of over $150,000 in 2021.

Weather in Connecticut

Connecticut is perfect for families who love snow, but also want to enjoy hot summers. The summers are hot and humid, but  winters can be snowy and cold. 

The best time to move to Connecticut is from mid-May to mid-October, during the summer and fall months. Conversely, the worst time to move to this state is during the winter due to the threat of snowstorms that can occur between December and February.
